First Nutrition Break: 10:05-10:45 am
Period 3: 10:45-11:35 am

Second Nutrition Break: 12:25-1:15 pm
Period 5: 1:15-2:15 pm
Period 6: 2:15-2:55 pm
Dismissal: 2:55 pm (Kindergarten 2:45)
End of day supervision ends at 3:10 pm

Note: Breakfast Club is open to all students - served Mon. to Fri. from 8:00 to 8:20 am in the school's west hallway by the library - volunteers always needed - see Volunteer Info

8:25 am - Purple Room students should meet in the North Kindergarten pen (as of November 7th). Yellow, Red, Blue and Green Room students should meet in the West Kindergarten pen. All Gr. 1 to Gr. 6 students should meet on the blacktop in your designated area. Gr. 1 and 2 enter through Door #10 and Gr. 3 to 6 enter through Door #8.

2:45 pm - Yellow, Red, Blue and Green Rooms are dismissed from the West Kindergarten pen. Purple Room is dismissed from their classroom - Door #18.

2:55 pm - Gr. 1 and 2 students are dismissed from Door #10 and Gr. 3 to 6 students are dismissed through Door #8.

Note: The YMCA aftercare program is dismissed as instructed to parents.

Mohawk Gardens Public School is a Kindergarten to Grade 6 school in southeast Burlington, Ontario and we are excited to be celebrating our 50th Anniversary in October 2018. Our school colours are blue and orange and our mascot is a mustang.

  • IDAHOTB recognized at MGPS On May 17th, Mohawk Gardens will be raising the Pride Flag in support of building solidarity for The International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biophobia (IDAHOTB). Within our classrooms, we will have grade appropriate focuses on how to create a safe environment through reading inclusive picture books (e.g. And Tango Makes Three) and engaging in conversations. We will also be raising our school's Pride Flag during the month of June as we did last year. Read more about it under Mohawk Garden Protectors Club.

  • Gr. 6 Fundraiser The annual Grade 6 Fundraiser will run from May 15th to May 29th for their end of year celebration, which assists in paying for the bus to and from Canada's Wonderland on June 25th. All Grade 6 students will receive an order form and catalogue for Terra Cotta Cookies, in the hopes of selling 4 boxes each. This fundraiser is only on School Cash Online and is open to the entire school.   • Earth Week To celebrate earth week, our students have explored the effects of plastic pollution on our earth. We watched some eye opening videos and had some rich discussions to figure out ways we could reduce our use of plastics in our daily life. We learned that “single use plastics” - straws, plastic bags, cutlery and water bottles to name a few - are detrimental to the earth. Did you know that it takes 500-1000 years for plastic to break down into small pieces but it never goes away?   • HDSB app launch The Halton District School Board is excited to announce the launch of its mobile app that consolidates important information for parents, guardians and students into one easy-to-access location. The free app is available for download on the App Store and Google Play (search “Halton District School Board” or “HDSB”).  The app, a pilot project since the fall at four Burlington schools, is being rolled out to all 105 elementary and secondary schools in the Halton District School Board this week during Education Week (May 7-11). This video details the app set-up process and features. During the setup process, users will be prompted to “subscribe” to individual schools.   • Warm Fuzzy Pencil Project Warm Fuzzy Pencil Project - The M.G.P. (Mohawk Gardens Protectors Club) has worked hard over the last 3 months to create original warm fuzzy pencils. These are available for purchase for $2 each. The purpose is to send an anonymous gift to someone at school that could use a "pick me up", or a message that someone cares. Each pencil has a nice message attached that will go out to each person who receives one. Cookbooks on sale now!

Thank you for all of your recipe and artwork submissions to create our school's first cookbook thanks to a grant from Healthy Kids Community Challenge Burlington. After voting by students, the winner of the cookbook cover contest was Seren - Congratulations! Cookbooks are now being sold for $10 through School Cash Online until May 29th.

Nutrition Program Appreciation

Mohawk Gardens offers a daily breakfast program and a weekly snack program thanks to grants provided by Halton Food for Thought, Healthy Kids Community Challenge Burlington and President's Choice Children's Charity. We also receive regular food donations from St. Elizabeth's Anglican Church. We are also grateful for the volunteer support we receive from Cargill Canada, RBC and the Rotary Club of Burlington. Special thanks to IKEA Canada for visiting our breakfast program with a donation of reusable food bags and for donating several sets of plates, bowls and cutlery for our nutrition program. Mohawk Gardens Public School was proudly accepted to participate in the Healthy Kids Community Challenge Burlington program "Choose to boost veggies and fruits."
