Mohawk Gardens Public School was invited to participate in the annual Join the Joy campaign at Joseph Brant Hospital on Sunday, December 2nd from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm open to the public to attend. Our students decorated four donated trees to be auctioned off at the hospital during their special event: a Christmas in the Woods tree by Gr. 1-1, 1-2 and 1-3 (Mrs. Brandreth, Mrs. Walker and Ms. Maheu), a Winter Fun tree by Gr. 2/3 (Miss Raspopov), a Peace and Love tree by Gr. 3/4 (Mrs. Howard), and a 50th Anniversary Celebration tree using recycled decorations from our school's 50th reunion (School Council & MG Neighbourhood Play Group). Thank you to all of the students who participated in this nice tradition - we were very proud of our school's creations and proceeds support Joseph Brant Hospital's Maternal and Child Program. Update: Congratulations to our Gr. 1 classes on winning the Best Decorated Tree (out of 30 trees!) for their beautiful owl, reindeer and pinecone ornaments. Cathy (retired HDSB teacher) and Nicole (Joseph Brant Hospital staff) visited our school on Friday, January 11th to thank each class for their contribution to the event which raised $30,000 for the hospital, $1,500 from tree sales. As one student mentioned during the presentation, "we created them with love." Our Gr. 1 classes will enjoy a pizza party as a reward on Friday, February 8th.
