Mohawk Gardens Public School participates in the annual Forest of Reading campaign with the Ontario Library Assocation (OLA). The OLA provides a list of Canadian books nominated for the Forest of Reading awards based on different age levels. Students then vote on the books that they like best and the winners are announced in May at the Festival of Trees in Toronto. Our school particpates in voting on books for the Blue Spruce Award (JK to Gr. 2 picture books) and the Silver Birch Award (Gr. 3 to Gr. 6 Fiction and Non-Fiction and Express books).

Mrs. Faint, our Teacher-Librarian leads the Forest of Reading initiative, including readings of each nominated book to the younger classes and monitoring reading charts for the older classes. Thank you to the school and School Council for helping purchase copies of all the nominated Canadian books for our library collection! The Forest helps celebrate Canadian books, publishers, authors and illustrators and supports the I Read Canadian fund.
